Small Swaps To Your Grocery Shop Make BIG Changes

Small Swaps

There are many ways to make beneficial, small changes and swaps to your grocery shop and each little change makes a huge difference to not only to your wellbeing but also to our planet.

During the past few years, more people are seeking ways to increase plant-based eating habits in their diet. Some prefer to switch out foods like meat and dairy one or two days each week, whilst others are swapping to a plant-based meal once per day.

To get you on your way, we've included 6 of our easiest swap ideas below.

1. Swap Milk Cartons For Nut Milk

Do you drink milk and find you waste more than you drink? Not to mention, the packaging waste created. Nut milk is ideal for cooking, baking and drinking and is the perfect plant-based swap if you've been thinking of ditching dairy.

2. Swap Meat Protein For Beans & Pulses

Stretch your grocery budget further and put more on your plate by making the swap to plant-based proteins. Lentils, chickpeas and beans all rate highly for their protein levels and are easily incorporated into hot and cold meals. Use them in baked goods, soups, stews and salads.

3. Swap White Sugar for Sweet Alternatives

It isn’t a secret too much refined white sugar is not the best way to add sweetness to your day. Consider alternatives like Organic Coconut sugar, Xylitol, Organic Rapadura, Organic Stevia Powder or Rice Malt Syrup. These are an easy swap you will wish you had made earlier. Use them for all your baking, sweetening drinks and dessert making of course.

4. Swap Butter For Coconut Butter

Reap the rewards and make the switch to coconut butter. Make a batch by simply adding desiccated coconut to a food processor and blend until smooth. That’s it! Easy on the purse strings and there’s zero waste. Spread it on muffins, toast and pancakes or use it in raw and baked treats.

5. Swap Cream For Cashew Cream

Can’t imagine dip without dairy cream? Make the swap to cashew cream and compare the delicious difference. Simply soak raw cashews in water overnight before blending until velvety and smooth. Add creaminess to dressings, soup and stews or lightly sweeten to take the place of whipped cream.

6. Swap Cheese For Yeast Flakes

Reduce fat in your diet by using nutritional yeast flakes to sprinkle over grilled vegetables, risottos and popcorn. Nutritional yeast flakes are a wonderful way to add a savoury cheese-like flavour to dips, salad dressings, sauces and spreads. Keep it in the pantry, you never know when you want to add flavour to your dishes.
