National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia's largest community tree-planting and nature event.
The team at Coconutsy are running a tree day activity to do something positive for the environment. We are planting over 100 native trees and shrubs in the Rathdowney area including rare mountain species.
Tree planting is considered to be one of the most effective tools in tackling the climate crisis. With trees absorbing and storing the carbon dioxide that drives global heating, research estimates that a global planting program could remove two-thirds of all emissions that have been released into the atmosphere by human activity.
This is a great opportunity to inspire your community to make a positive change and inform your local community about environmental issues and encourage them to take part in future conservation of your local area
Trees are an important part of every community. Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with trees that create a peaceful and pleasing environment. We gather under the cool shade they provide during outdoor activities with family and friends.
Even if you cant get out and plant trees in a wide open space, go to your nursery and plant a native shrub or ground cover to attract birds and bees to your garden.
Or become a National Tree Day volunteer and get involved in tree planting efforts in your local area by registering as part of National Tree Day.
