Bamboo straws being cut

How are bamboo straws made?

We all know plastic straws are not good for the planet, especially when they get into the sea and endanger wildlife. But what is the alternative?

Well bamboo straws of course! Our bamboo straws are individually hand crafted and harvested by local crafts men and women at a small, family-run farm in rural Vietnam.

Bamboo straws are the only biodegradable reusable straw on the market. In fact, bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than trees and actually helps to repair the environment.

Here's how we make our bamboo straws, the entire process is safe, non-toxic and completely organic:

  1. Bamboo branches are first identified for the right thickness and cut to length.
  2. After cutting the bamboo the hole at the center of the branch is made larger. Usually there is already a small hole so this makes it easy to either make it bigger with a round file.
  3. The bamboo straw is then sanded on both ends to make sure there are no splinters and give it a nicer more elegant look!
  4. The bamboo straws are then put in boiling water for 10 minutes to disinfect them and then dried in the sun.

Ditch using plastic straws and go all natural with our sustainable bamboo straws. Bamboo straws are a great alternative and are handmade, organic, biodegradable, durable and best of all reusable.
