4 Reasons to Choose Soy Candles

Is there anything better than unwinding with a cozy candle after a long day? Taking some time to relax - especially when the world feels particularly stressful.

Our 100% soy wax candles are available in a range of enticing scents with wood wicks guaranteeing a longer, more satisfying burn time.

Each candle in the Wood and Wick range is made from natural undyed soy wax, which is non-toxic and a better and more sustainable alternative.

Soy Wax Derives from Natural Ingredients

Soy wax is made from natural ingredients derived from the soybean. After the bean is de-hulled and rolled into flakes it is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.

The process of hydrogenating oil enables the conversion of the oil from unsaturated fatty acids to saturated. This important step results in raising the melting point of the oil where it is a solid at room temperature.

Paraffin does not contain the same properties as soy wax. Unlike soy wax, paraffin is derived in a different way. Paraffin wax is the product of the oil purification process from petroleum, coal, or oil shale. Rather than deriving from natural ingredients, paraffin wax contains artificial ingredients.

Soy Wax Candles Burn Cleaner

Soy wax burns clean and you can feel confident that your family won’t be exposed to harmful chemicals or toxins in the air. Mainstream candle brands make their candles using paraffin wax or a blend of soy and paraffin wax. When burning paraffin wax or a paraffin blend, chemicals called benzene and toluene (carcinogens) are released into the air. These same chemicals cause thick black soot to stain your walls and ceilings.

In 2009, a study by South Carolina State University found that burning soy wax does not release these harmful chemicals.

Soy Wax Lasts Longer

Soy wax candles can last up to 50% longer than a paraffin candle. While a soy wax candle might be slightly more expensive, they’ll be burning in your home twice as long. Soy candles last longer because they burn evenly and don’t develop a mushrooming effect seen in paraffin candles. A soy ‘blend’ candle might be misleading; these wax blends, more than likely, contain a small amount of soy wax with the rest being paraffin wax.

Soy Wax has a Lower Melting Point

Different wax has different melting points, for example paraffin wax has a higher melting point between 49-71 . Soy wax has a much lower melting point, making it far more versatile because it can burn in cooler environments. The lower melting point also lowers the safety risks when burning the candle, especially if there are children around and it accidently gets knocked.

Remember

Paraffin candles are popular in homes, restaurants, hotels, and more, but they may pose hidden dangers to our health with long-term exposure. If you’re a fan of candlelight, you may want to consider switching to soy wax candles. They’re renewable, biodegradable, and perhaps best of all, nontoxic.

Regardless of your ideal scent and whether you're buying a candle for your mom or best friend, or to fuel your own ongoing obsession, these soy candles are our top sellers.
